Often, for installing WordPress in hosting accounts, we use Fantastico. However, there are other similar tools available as well and we hardly are aware of those. In this article, we will discuss a tool named Softaculous and explain the easy steps to follow for installing WordPress using Softaculous.
What do you need to use Softaculous
- You need to have a hosting account that supports cPanel hosting control panel.
- Secondly, the hosting account provider must be supporting Softaculous. Make sure to check this out before you buy any hosting package from a specific provider. If you are not sure even after checking the FAQs page, you can directly get in touch with the technical support team.
Steps to follow to use Softaculous
The first step is to connect to your hosting account and login to the control panel. If you are not sure about its exact URL, you should type in the following in your browser’s address bar: http://yourdomain.com/cpanel (Where: http://yourdomain.com is your website URL). Remember, one thing though that depending on your hosting provider, the exact cPanel URL may vary and hence, it’s always best to contact the hosting provider and get the cPanel URL right from them.
Now, once you have logged in entering your username and password, you should see a section called Software/Services (Or, something along the lines, it will vary depending on the hosting provider actually). Now, you should see Softaculous listed over there.
Click over there and you will be right in the Softaculous page. You will see numerous scripts installed and you should obviously see the WordPress right there as well. Now, move over to WordPress script and click install button over there.
You will now be presented with a screen where you need to enter several details on your WordPress site such as your site name, site description, admin login, admin password, admin email (The admin details should be kept separately as you will need that for further logins to your account). There are other Softaculous specific details to be entered on that specific page as well.
Now, the final step comes. Click on the Install button on that screen and if you have done everything correctly, you should see a WordPress installation confirmation page.
