Well promoted for hosting services, HostGator is in its 10th year of operation. With my websites scattered over multiple service providers I just recently began consolidating them under HostGator. I was attracted by their generous “unlimited” services for business accounts, e.g. unlimited bandwidth, domains, disk space, e-mails, etc. My previous service providers all had limits on those resources and charged higher rates to boot.
HostGator offers four different service categories, Shared Hosting, Managed VPS Hosting, Reseller Hosting, and Managed Dedicated Servers. A quick overview of these services follows:
Shared Hosting Service, starting at $4.99/mo.
Includes 1 Domain, Cpanel Administration, Unlimited Disk Space, Bandwidth, Databases, and e-Mail Accounts. Their business hosting service allows unlimited domains and private IPs for $12.99/mo.
Reseller Hosting starting at $24.95
CPanel Administration with WHM for managing client accounts, Unlimited Domains, Databases, and e-Mails, with 50Gb Disk Space and 500Gb/mo Bandwidth.
Managed VPS Hosting, starting at $19.95/mo
Cpanel Administration, Unlimited Domains, Databases, e-Mail Accounts, with 10Gb of disk space and 250Gb/mo of bandwidth.
Managed Dedicated Servers, starting at $174/mo
10TB/mo. Bandwidth, 500GB RAID Disk Space, 10 Mbps Uplink, 5 Dedicated IPs.
Of course these are base rates, so increased storage and bandwidth is available at higher rates. As of this writing HostGator was offering 50% off the first month service on all their service categories.
I love cPanel, or perhaps I’m just used to using it, but it’s uncomplicated and makes managing my accounts a snap. HostGator’s customer support is top notch as well. I was up and running, transferring accounts within less than 30 minutes of opening an account. I had a few questions about SSL certs and database servers. Their live chat window, unlike many service providers, was actually active and I was chatting within a minute of requesting a session. The support person answered all my questions without hesitation and didn’t give me that sick feeling that I was being read a canned script.
All in all I’ve been very pleased with HostGator’s service to date and expect to move my remaining sites to their servers shortly.
