My name is Jason Lovett and I recently started up my first self-hosted website, so originally titled jasonlovett.net.
I’ve never hosted my own website before, always vying for free hosting solutions like WordPress.com or blogger for their accessibility, but every high profile blogger I read seemed to recommend a self hosting solution. So, despite my reservations, I decided to jump in, and bought a few books on self hosted blogs. The first book I read recommended Hostgator, and after following the steps and getting set up, I understand why.
Hostgator is an exceptional service both on the customer relations side of things, and in terms of the product that they deliver. It was extremely easy to buy a domain, and I swiftly was able to connect it to my purchased hosting plan. I got the “baby” plan, which pretty much set me up for everything I’ll ever need in a blog. The feature set in the Control Panel was astounding, and although it looked complicated at a glance, it turned out to be quite intuitive.
When getting started, I had an issue with my domain name, as I foolishly purchased a couple different ones out of indecision. So I emailed them a service ticket, not actually expecting to be responded to at all. Promptly, a representative actually called me on the telephone and helped me through the process! I was blown away!
I’m excited to use hostgator in the future, and would highly recommend it to anyone starting out in blogging or for general web hosting.
